Description
Climb up Mount Popa near Bagan to visit the Monastery situated at the top. Mt Popa was a volcano, 1518 metres above sea level, and located in central Myanmar about 50 km southeast of Bagan. The monastery at Taungkalat is famed for being home to 37 nats (Burmese spirits), which are represented by status at the base of the volcanic outcrop. From here, you can climb up over 800 steps to the monastery at the top, where you will find a 360-degree panorama and a labyrinth of shrines to explore.
