2-Hour Soviet Vilnius Tour
Description
The medieval Vilnius is known for its baroque architecture and rich medieval history. But from 1940 to 1990, Vilnius was occupied by the Soviet Union. During this period, many tourists no nothing. During this tour, we will go up Gediminas Avenue, and I will tell you how Soviet people lived, what they bought in shops, and how children were educated at school; I will show you the KGB museum (visit to the museum not included), were many people were killed, you will see Soviet buildings with bomb shelters and Lithuanian Parlament, where Lithuanian independence from Soviet Union was declared and the remainings of the wall, which was protecting Lithuanian Parlament from possible Soviet troops.

- Meet your tour guide at Cathedral Square to begin your walking tour of Soviet Vilnius.
You will go up Gediminas Ave., which in the Soviet period was named Lenin's Ave. As you make your way, your guide will give you historical overviews and facts about Soviet realities.
Visit Lithuanian National Drama Theatre. Lithuania had a deep drama experience, but during the Soviet period, theatres had Soviet censorship.
- Visit Lukishkes Square. In the Soviet period, the square had Lenin's name, and his monument stood there. On one side of this square was the KGB building, where now you can find the KGB museum. The guide will tell you about the Lithuanian resistance movement, which lasted until 1953.
- End the tour near Lithuanian Parlament. This building was declared independence from the Soviet Union.
