Ta Phrom Temple expand_more
In the afternoon, we go to the Ta Phrom Temple, one of the most romantic temples of Angkor's site, where nature resumed its rights and disrupted the men's work. A magic place built in 1186, this Buddhist temple was the most gigantic of Angkor's sites. The Conservation of Angkor saved the main monuments. All the trees and the roots had invaded the monuments the first discoverers found. Roots looking like snakes have disrupted and wasted statues and walls, and giant trees have broken the heads of stupas.

Know before you go
Angkor Thom (Khmer, literally: "Great City"), located in present-day Cambodia, was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer Empire. It was established in the late twelfth century by King Jayavarman VII. It covers an area of 9 km², within which several monuments from earlier eras and those established by Jayavarman and his successors are located. At the centre of the city is Jayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, with the other major sites clustered around the Victory Square immediately to the north.
Angkor Thom was established as the capital of Jayavarman VII's empire and was the centre of his massive building programme. One inscription found in the city refers to Jayavarman as the groom and the city as his bride.
