Wait for the horse race in the evening, till then visit the city during the day.
The guide will show the principal churches and palaces of the city and how incredible the view is from the steep and narrow streets and medieval alleys.
In the afternoon, see a special live event that is the blessing of the horse, right inside the church of the Contrada (district) or in front of it.
At 4 pm, the historical parade starts from the square Iacopo della Quercia, right next to the Cathedral and moves along the streets of the city at the time beaten by the "Sunto", the big bell on the top of the Tower of Mangia.
At 5 pm, the historical parade enters the Piazza del Campo: the standard-bearers of each Contrada wave their flags to the sky making spectacular games.
At 6.45 pm, all is ready for the horse race. People are standing in the center of the Piazza del Campo or sitting on the benches all around the horse's track.
