La Dolce Vita (literally “sweet life”) is, therefore, a “good life”, worth living no matter what: it is spending as much time as possible with our loved ones, whether family members (who we deeply love and from whom we reluctantly part) or friends (the “family we choose”!). It is treating us daily with good food (a cornerstone of our culture), which we not only prepare with a passion but above all taste at leisure. It is enjoying the little pleasures of the world (like wine, music, etc.) without ever exaggerating, but seeking instead that perfect compromise that poet Horace called “aurea mediocrity”: the golden moderation!
