Pitti Palace was the residence of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, already inhabited by the Medici, the Lorraine and Savoy. Inside it houses a museum complex consisting of: the Palatine Gallery (art gallery with masterpieces by Raphael, Titian, etc.) with eighteenth-century paintings, the monumental beautiful royalty apartments, the Winter Quarter and Quartier Prince of Naples(not ordinarily open to tourists), the Modern Art Gallery (with works of the Macchiaioli) and other specialised museums. The museum circuit of the Boboli Garden includes the Silver Museum, the Gallery costume, the largest Italian museum dedicated to fashion, the Porcelain Museum and the Bardini Garden, which was the sixth most visited site by Italians. The gardens behind the Palazzo Pitti, the residence of the Medici first and the Lorraine and Savoy, were built between the fifteenth and nineteenth centuries. The first Renaissance-style setting, visible in the nearest to the building core, were added over the years some of them lead in ponds, fountains, temples and caves.
