I almost always find my own way around a new city and explore solo. But with my limited time in Chisinau, and took the suggestion from my hosts at the Florence Hotel (also highly recommended) and booked a half day tour with Valery, and enjoyed every minute. He is punctual, energetic and incredibly passionate about Moldova and its history, and explains it brilliantly. His English is better than mine, and wants nothing more than to help the traveler learn as much as they can about this small, little-known country. As an added bonus, his knowledge of classical and modern music is unmatched, and if Moldova wasn't so interesting, we could have spent hours discussing everything from Mussorgsky to the Beatles. Don't hesitate: just book Valery!

He has a car which was necessary for Transnistria and useful for Chisinau, particularly if you're short on time as you can fit more in. Valery was a fantastic guide. We arranged with him different tours around the country (Old Orhei, Cricova Winery, Transnistria, Chisinau city tour, airport transfers, etc.) and it was all excellently organised, we even visited some places that were not foreseen in the initial description. They were very punctual (our driver was always waiting for us before the time) and flexible in adapting to our needs. To sum up, it was an excellent experience and if I were to return to Moldova, I would contact Valery again.
