Our tour of Verdun by Cecil could not have been any more informative and eye-opening about this deadly battle. Our French grandfather had received the medal of Verdun, where he fought at age 19, and was captured by the Germans. We wanted to find out more about this moment in history, and try to imagine our grandfather's ordeal, which he thankfully survived. Cecil is a wonderful tour guide, filling us in on all the history, and driving us to the battlefield and monuments in memory of the dead. The highlight was Cecil taking us to the office that keeps filing cabinets full of index cards for each of the soldiers who fought and received the medal of Verdun. Cecil found not just our grandfather, but his two brothers who also received the medal of Verdun. This office is open very infrequently and Cecil made the effort to get us there during the few hours it was open. As a guide he went beyond our expectations, with intelligence, knowledge of his field, and a good sense of humor.

Prompt: Cecil was prompt meeting me at Meuse TGV train station, He was there when I disembarked from the 07:58 a.,m. train from Gare/Paris Est Train Station. 2. Professional, Passionate & Extremely Knowledgeable about his subject - i.e. World War I, specifically Verdun & the Argonne Forest Battle Sites - & Well-Versed driving the roads & routes. Cecil also had research materials & maps available for use during our discussions. 3. Friendly & a Good Sense of Humor. 4. Cecil was our tour guide for the full day Verdun tour. He was very knowledgeable about the area and the battles fought there. It was great having someone to show us the most popular sites, and also give us insight into the areas that aren't so well-known.

Had a great tour. We were in tne area for two days and Cecil was very helpful in tailoring our visit for a day on our own and and a full day with him. He gave great advice on hear we could see on our own. In our time with him, he did a great job balancing the big picture perspective to help us understand what we were seeing along with phenomenal, colorful detail on particulars. He did a great job. He really helped us understand the geography of what we were seeing. There are so many sites around Verdun and the battle was so long that I was lost before we went. Cecil really helped us out it all together and understand how all the sites related to each other. Truly a great guide to history .

We had a fantastic day with Cecil. He spent extra time with us to ensure we saw all important Verdun and Meuse sites. He was incredibly knowledgable. We learned a lot and enjoyed spending the day with him. I highly recommend Cecil!!!
