I traveled to Romania with my son and my daughter - in - law in the summer of 2015. My son and I left Romania a long time ago and the young couple wanted to learn about Romania. We provided Mihai Toncescu, our guide, with input regarding sites we would like to visit. He planned a wonderful 7 day trip, covering some of the most significant historical, religious, cultural and natural sites of Romania. Most of the sites were UNESCO accredited, including the wonderful Bucovina painted monasteries and the wooden churches of Maramures. The hotel accommodations were five star, most of them for under $100 a night. An incredible bargain for Europe travelers. What we liked best is that along the way, as Mihai got to learn more about us and our interest, he was able to add side trips to our initially planned tour. An example was a visit and dinner at the Varatec monastery, served by friendly nuns, on a patio, under a grape vine canopy, surrounded by flower and vegetable gardens, enjoying the end of the day and the sunset. An unforgettable memory. Mihai proved to be a very experienced guide, with a lot of knowledge in all aspects of history and life in Romania. I would highly recommend a trip to Romania with his company.
