I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was fortunate that I booked Mr. Hamdi early. He’s the top-rated guide in Tunisia on TourHQ. His communication was excellent, touching base with us frequently enough for us to know that our tour was still on, but not so often that it was an annoyance. Just right. Ahmed’s punctuality (an hour early), meticulous preparation, and determined persistence to solve issues during the day all point to his military career. This included a posting at the Tunisian embassy in Washington, D.C. He’s a trustworthy man and we really enjoyed the service he provided. I highly recommend that you engage Ahmed for whatever your needs may be in Tunis.

We had an interesting and lovely tour of Carthage, Sidi Bou Said, the beach, lunch, and Medina with Ahmed. He was very flexible and accommodating as our plans for the day changed, managed to negotiate convenient parking, met our request for a Tunisian lunch (the food was terrific), and helped us haggle in Medina. We wanted to learn more about life in Tunis today and Ahmed shared stories about his life and family. Our daughter drew him a thank you picture, and Ahmed was so touched he bought her a Tunisian tunic as a souvenir. We feel we made a friend in Tunis and hope we have the opportunity to return someday or return the hospitality should Ahmed’s family visit California.

Ahmed was a fantastic guide during our stay in Tunisia; he is reliable, knowledgeable and has a great sense of humour. He messaged us beforehand and collected us from the airport (with gifts of sweets), and was very patient as we tried to find the obscure address of our Airbnb. He later took us on a day trip to Kairouan to visit the Great Mosque and El Djem to see the amphitheatre. It was a fascinating trip, with Ahmed providing explanations and the historical background to what we saw, as well as lots of laughs along the way. We really felt like we were in safe hands, and his car is ideal for such a long trip. He also took us to the airport for our early morning return flight, which we appreciated. All in all, Ahmed really made our visit to Tunisia special.
