Hari guided me and my husband on our honeymoon trek to Gokyo Lakes in the fall of 2010. We were very impressed with his technical AND tactical knowledge of the trail. When other guides were rushing out to climb Gokyo Ri, and the Mt. Everest view point above Namche Bazaar, Hari was watching the clouds and waiting for the right moment - and we were rewarded with perfect timing! Hari is also very mindful of his client's physical abilities: we tend to hike very fast, which could have put us in trouble at those altitudes. Instead, Hari paced us with good rest spots and tea-time breaks. At permit checkpoints, Hari took care of the communication and were allowed to breeze past other trekkers struggling to secure their premissions. Overall, we believe that Hari is already an excellent guide who is on the path to being a forefront leader with age and experience. 

I have done three treks in Nepal with Taralal Dharel: Everest Base Camp, Langtang and Upper Mustang, which were all great (and safe) adventures, thanks to Taralal. He knows the ways, knows the teahouse owners, is always eager to help....and keeps you laughing. During some tough times Taralal even carried my day pack, but please don't ask him to do that! His good nature and sense of humor are a big plus on these long treks.He is also good in a pinch and can effortlessly change plans when circumstances change. For example, he was my guide when the earthquake hit Nepal in April 2015. He calmly managed my safe return to Kathmandu and ultimately my exit from Nepal, even as he faced the loss of his village home and as wife was in her final days of pregnancy. On a less dramatic occasion, I developed a foot infection from an earlier surgery and we had to cut a trek short. Without missing a beat, Taralal diverted us quickly back and developed a substitute non-hiking vacation for the rest of my stay that included Chitwan and Pokhara.I am proud to know Taralal and consider him a good, lifelong friend.
