Description

Reach the Jibaro-Achuar Village and ride down the Tahuayo River to search for monkeys, giant otters and pink dolphins. Watch out for nocturnal animals like snakes and night monkeys as you take a walk in the Peruvian Amazon forest. You can also look for caimans at night while kayaking! Visit the Huaisi community at the river Amazon and Tahuayo before navigating to Tamshiyacu Town.

  • Day 1: Nauta City and Jerusalen Village expand_more

    • Depart from your hotel or the airport. Start your tour by driving in a private car to Nauta City (approx. 1.5 hours).

    • From there, travel 2 hours by boat in the Amazon River and then, Yarapa river to get to Jaldar and hike 35 minutes to the Jibaro-Achuar Village Jesuralen in the Tahuayo River.

  • Day 2: Jerusalen Village expand_more

    • After breakfast, explore down the Tahuayo River to look for wildlife like monkeys, giant otters, pink dolphins and find a place to set the camp.

    • At night, do a short jungle walk to look at some amazonian dwellers like frogs, snakes, porcupines, night monkeys, etc.

  • Day 3: Jerusalen Village expand_more

    • Keep exploring the Tahuayo River to look for more wildlife

    • At night, look for Caimans by kayak (optional).

  • Day 4: Huaisi expand_more

    • Continue your adventures in the Tahuayo River and pass some native communities to arrive in Huaisi community on the mouth of the Amazon River and Tahuayo.

  • Day 5: Tamshiyacu and Iquitos expand_more

    • Navigate the mighty Amazon River and arrive in Tamshiyacu Town.

    • Take the speed boat back to Iquitos to your hotel or airport.

What to bring

  • Cash (dollars or soles under $50 bills, please).

  • Light-weight clothing that breathes and quickly sheds moisture (not cotton). Take one set of clothes for each day.

  • Long pants are recommended for jungle walks and insect prevention.

  • Long or short sleeve shirts. Long sleeve shirts aren’t as cool but protect better from insects.

  • Long socks for insect prevention.

  • Hat for sun protection.

  • 1 – 2 pairs of comfortable walking or hiking shoes (rubber boots are provided for some excursions)

  • Insect repellent containing 20 – 30 % DEET. Sometimes there will be few mosquitoes and insects, and other times there will be many. Take a small bottle that you can keep in your pocket for use when needed.

  • Light, inexpensive poncho or raincoat.

  • Plastic bag for dirty clothes.

  • Sunscreen.

  • Camera equipment, high-quality cameras and lenses or compact cameras, whatever suits you.

  • Dry bag or other water protection (at least a Ziploc bag)

  • Don’t forget your battery charger!

  • Flashlight (headlamps are usually best).

  • Personal toiletries.

  • Personal medications.

  • Sandals or leisure shoes for around the lodge

  • Binoculars

Know before you go

  • In all of the expeditions and excursions, the guides work in safe places for the travellers; malaria, dengue, Yellow fever and sika have not been reported in any of the areas of operations.

  • Tour is FULL ADVENTURES so no refund if you don´t complete the tour. 

  • It is highly recommended to stay overnight in Iquitos City or lodge (lodge will consider an extra cost) on your last day to take a good rest and relax after a long trip in the Peruvian Jungle. If you are travelling solo, contact for a better rate.

  • Lodge (optional).

  • Exclusive Lodge Accommodations with comfortable bungalows. All meals, extra excursion at night (optional) and next day after breakfast or lunch. Back to Iquitos city to the airport or your hotel.
