Description

Choose the only route that approaches Kili from the north, near the Kenyan border. The Rongai Route's ascent profile is very similar to that of Marangu and one of Kili's easier routes. The climb to the top is gradual and steady. Experience the incomparable natural beauty on this trek to Mount Kilimanjaro in just 7 days!

Highlights
  • Admire the magnificent views of Kilimanjaro Peak
  • Climb the Summit at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa
  • Camp at the savannah zone of Kibo hut
  • Day 1: Rongai Gate to Rongai Cave expand_more
    • Take a ride to Marangu to complete the necessary registration formalities before to Rongai.

    • Begin the climb from Nale Moru (6,400 ft) on a small path that winds through fields of maize and potatoes before entering a pine forest with your Kilimanjaro trekking guide.

    • Start to climb consistently but gently through attractive forest that shelters a variety of wildlife, including the Colobus monkey. These monkeys are black with a long ‘cape’ of white hair and a flowing whitetail. The forest begins to thin out at the edge of the moorland zone.

    • Then, take in the expansive views over the Kenyan plains as you arrive at your first campsite at Rongai One (8,500 ft).

    Break for dinner and overnight.

    • Rest here for a short time to enjoy the spectacular sunrise over Mawenzi.
