Take a cycle ride from Maymorn to Cross Creek expand_more
- Meet the guide at around 9 am in your hotel in Wellington.
- Head to Maymorn (25 km ride) or Kaitoke (18 km ride) in a shuttle with your Wellington tour guide.
- Follow the Remutaka Rail Trail on your cycle. The route will have a very gradual incline. Cycle through tunnels and over bridges while learning about how the old fell railway system was constructed.
- Reach the summit - a large grassy plateau perfect for a picnic or a cold drink.
- Enjoy a fun descent to Cross Creek in the Wairarapa, surrounded by some of New Zealand's most scenic farmland.
Take a shuttle from Cross Creek (2:00 pm) back to your accommodation in Wellington (3:30 pm).

What to bring
- What to wear:
Closed shoes - running shoes, or sneakers, for example
Shorts or tight-fitting pants (so they don't get caught up in moving parts)
T-shirt or similar for when you're riding
Fleece and a light waterproof jacket for when you're resting
Sunglasses and sunscreen
Depending on the weather and season, you may also want to wear thermal leggings and bring a woollen hat and gloves

Bike gloves
Your personal helmet (if you'd prefer to use your own)
Know before you go
The tour operators will get in touch with you the day before the event is due to take place, to confirm whether or not the booking is going ahead - if you've supplied an NZ-based phone number, they will try to call you on this, but if they can't reach you or you've supplied an international number, they'll default to the email address supplied
If the weather looks a bit dubious, they will discuss this with you and make a joint decision as to whether to go ahead
If the weather looks awful, they will call the booking off
