  • Day 1: Full day boat tour in the Blue Nile River expand_more
    • After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Bahir Dar. Get a brief about your full day boat trip and then move towards the habour, heading to the outlet of the Blue Nile River in a 3.5-hour boat journey.

    • Along the way, you will enjoy watching birds, hippos and fishermen with Tankwa, a vessel boat that is made of Cyprus papyrus plants. 

    • Later, continue your journey to the Narga Selassie Church, an Orthodox Tewahedo church located on the western shores of Dek island.

    • Walk for 30-40 minutes through a coffee plantation and evergreen church forests.

    • Visit the Betre Mariam and Ura Kidane Mihret monasteries with your Ethiopian tour guide.

    • Return to Bahir Dar and stay the night at the hotel.

  • Day 2: Awra Amba community - Hamusit city expand_more
    • At 8:00 am, drive to the Awra Amba community through the Hamusit city to learn about the unique community beliefs and practices.

    • Take a city tour of Hamusit and visit the Emperor Haile Selassie Palace. It is not open for everyone, but you can enjoy great views to watch Lake Tana, Bahir Dar city, Blue Nile River, island monasteries and surroundings from outside.

    • Watch amazing views from Bahir Dar’s viewpoint and explore cattle and open-air markets

    • Return to your hotel and stay the night.

  • Day 3: Blue Nile Waterfall - Grace centre expand_more
    • After breakfast, head to the beautiful Blue Nile waterfalls. Later you would see the Grace Centre, one of the famous foundations in Bahir Dar helping women and families.

    • Know about their daycare program, learn about small businesses like jewellery-making and bag-making, sewing. Know about their after-school care program and children’s temporary care home.

    • Return to your hotel in Bahir Dar.

Know before you go
  • The  Grace foundation has a daycare so that impoverished mothers can work and not have to abandon their children (orphan prevention). It works to keep families together by searching for and assisting single parents while encouraging them to become self-sufficient. And it also has foster homes for children who are not able to be reunified with birth family. For these children, it works to have them adopted locally by Ethiopians and also helps children growing up in prison.
  • Note: This tour can be combined with other destination in Ethiopia.
  • Bahir Dar city is the jumping-off point for visits to the spectacular scenic and historic attractions of Lake Tana, Blue Nile River and Awra Amba community. The Lake Tana is the largest lake in Ethiopia, which is situated in the north-western part of Ethiopia. Lake Tana is registered by UNESCO (“man and nature- biosphere reserve area”) in Many 2015. The site covers a total area of Lake Tana is more than 695,885 hectares and is a hotspot of biodiversity.
