See the huge lying statue of Ramesses II at the museum. Founded around 3,100 BC, Memphis is the legendary city of Menes, the king who united Upper and Lower Egypt.
    • After exploring the historical city of Memphis, continue to Saqqara, the most ancient Necropolis in Egypt. It is situated on a desert plateau crowned by the Step Pyramid of Zoser and its funerary complex, including temples and tombs. It is the most ancient stone building in the world. Take a trip to the Pyramid of Unas, the Serapeum and Mastabas, also known as Nobles' tombs. The most famous of which is the tomb of Ptah Hotep, the tomb of Kagemni and the tomb of Mereruka.
    • Further on, proceed to the Pyramids of Giza that lie on the west bank of the Nile facing Cairo. On top of Giza plateau rise the three pyramids erected by Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus, guarded by the mysterious Sphinx, a mythical statue with the body of a lion and a human head. During the Old Kingdom of Egypt (2613-2181 BCE), also known as the 'Age of the Pyramids' or 'Age of the Pyramid Builders', Giza became the royal Necropolis for Memphis, the Pharaoh’s capital city. Giza three pyramids and the Sphinx were constructed in the 4th dynasty (2,575 - 2565 BC). King Khufu, the second pharaoh of the fourth dynasty, ordered his majestic tomb at Giza. On average, over 2 million blocks of stones were used to build Khufu’s pyramid, and the heaviest blocks were used as the ceiling of his burial chamber. Khufu’s son and successor were Chephren, who founded his own pyramid complex, including the Sphinx. Each pyramid has a mortuary temple and a valley temple linked by a long causeway.
