Akrotiri is a remarkably well-preserved ancient Minoan city buried by a volcanic eruption some 3,600 years ago. It was discovered in 1967 near the modern village of Akrotiri. Archaeologists had discovered pottery, furniture, advanced drainage systems, and three-story buildings at the site.
