    • Begin by visiting the archaeological site, where you’ll see the ruins of the great temple of Zeus, the largest ancient Greek temple of Southern Greece, the stadium, where all the athletic contests take place, and the altar of Hera, where the Olympic Flame is lit, several months before the beginning of the modern Olympics.

    • Head to the nearby museum, where you’ll be able to see some of the finest pieces of ancient Greek art, including the sculptures of the Temple of Zeus and the statue of Nike of Panionios. The central piece of the collection is the statue of Hermes and the infant Dionysus, widely considered to be the greatest sculptural group of Ancient Greece.

    • Make a stop for shopping at Olympia market, which is located near the museum.

    • Go to the center of the small town of Olympia in order to pay a visit to Agora jewellery shop, famous for its handmade silver jewellery.

    • Drive to Olympia Land Winery, which is located on the outskirts of the town. The visit there includes a tour of the estate and a taste of four bottled wines (2 white, 1 rose, & 1 red).

    • Return to Olympia, where the tour ends.

  • Ancient Olympia, shopping and wine tasting: Olympia is the most famous archaeological site of the Peloponnese, being the birthplace of the Olympic Games. It’s located in a beautiful area, at the confluence of two rivers, Alpheios and Kladeos. The first games were held here almost 2.800 years ago, in what was considered to be a sacred site, dedicated to Zeus, the king of the gods, himself. These ancient Olympics were a major religious and athletic event, and all ancient Greek cities participated in them.

  • Entrance fees include 12 euros per person for the Archaeological site and the Museum and 15 euros per person for the Olympia Land winery (27 euros total).

  • European Union citizens over the age of 65 have a 50% discount for all archaeological sites and museums.

  • For EU students under the age of 18, entrance is free to all archaeological sites and museums.

  • Children under the age of 15 pay an entrance fee of 6 euros for the Olympia Land winery.

  • Opening hours: Archaeological site and the Museum 08:00 - 20:00; Olympia Land Winery 10:00 - 15:00 (10:30 - 14:30 Saturday and Sunday closed).
