Description

Sail towards an eighteenth-century fortress that was once used by the army to protect the town of Leningrad, now known as St. Petersburg. Walk around the fortress and admire its natural beauty on this full-day tour. Walkthrough trails, crossing parkland between popular sights like the King’s Gate drawbridge and Suomenlinna Museum, which recounts military and maritime history.

    • Start the tour after meeting your Helsinki tour guide at your hotel or the cruise ship port. Else depending on your hotel location, take local transport to the Market Square.

    • From there, take a ferry and sail to Vallisaari, which forms the eastern fortress of Suomenlinna. Vallisaari has been used by the military as an artillery base until 2016 and is now open for the public to walk around. The natural sites in Vallisaari are unique and beautiful. 

    • Then, sail forward to the main islands of Suomenlinna, and have the opportunity to enjoy lunch in a restaurant (at your own expense).

    • After having lunch, walk around the fortress and hear the history of the army sites, who built it and why wars have been fought here and its current status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

    • After the tour, sail towards Market Square and arrive back at your hotel or cruise port.
