Explore Ethiopia's most unique attractions - Dallol Afar, one of Earth's most volcanic regions located in northern Ethiopia and the Danakil Desert also called "Salt Desert" located in northeast Ethiopia, southern Eritrea, and northwestern Djibouti. Situated in the Afar Triangle, it stretches across 136,956 square kilometres of arid terrain. It is inhabited by a few Afar, who engage in salt mining , and the Volcano 'Erta Ale'. Danakil Depression, the"Hell on Earth", is sure to leave you with a lifetime of memories.

Day 1: Lake ASALE expand_more
Drive 260 km via Berhale to Hamed Ela - a village 25 km away from Dallol, called the "base camp".
Have lunch on the way.
Admire some impressive views and the camel caravans passing by.
In Berhale, finalize the paperwork with the administrator and later proceed to Hamed Ela.
On arrival in Hamed Ela, proceed to Lake Asale to enjoy the spectacular sunset reflections.
Spend the night on local Afar-beds under the stars or in wooden cottages.

Day 2: Dallol expand_more
After breakfast, early in the morning, begin the tour of colourful salt lakes and thermo-active springs of Dallol that are rich in potash, sulfur, and other minerals.
Visit the white salt desert with its natural salt mountains and the fields where Afar people harvest salt using traditional methods. Here, camel caravans begin their long trek to towns like Berhale for salt business.
After the half-day visit to Dallol, drive to Abala and have lunch en route.

Day 3: Erta Ale expand_more
Depart Abala at 9 am.
Drive 245 km to reach the base of the volcano. Cars cannot go further than this.
In the evening, begin a 4-hour trek to the top of the volcano.
Once on the top, visit the Lava Lake and camp in the local stone huts.

Day 4: Lake Afdera expand_more
Walk down to the camp at the volcano base, have breakfast and then drive to Afdera.
Swim in Lake Afdera and take a bath in a natural hot spring nearby.
After lunch, drive back to Mekelle.
