Description

A small country in the heart of Europe that has been confined within the same boundaries almost continuously over the last thousand years. A country that faced nomadic raiders from the east in the past and where rich culture flourished in the meantime. It is the land of gently rolling hills with fruitful lowlands, roads lined with tree alleys and roadside flowers, medieval fishponds, twisting rivers and forests interwoven by footpaths and trails leading below tree canopies to the villages with Baroque churches and orchards. But the most impressive are historical treasures dispersed from the Czech capital Prague through small medieval towns and romantic chateaus to solitary field crosses and statues that stand lonely in the countryside imploring God for intercession. Experience places where time has stood still for centuries, local folklore is still alive, and taste wines introduced by Czech king Charles seven hundred years ago. This itinerary is based on the most important places of natural and cultural importance.

Highlights
  • Marvel at the beauty of the White Carpathian mountains
  • Visit the wine cellars of local producers in Moravia and taste some local wines
  • Explore the marvellous Buchlov Castle
  • Day 1: Moravia expand_more
    • Meet the guide and transfer to southern Moravia to arrive in the small medieval town of Mikulov. You may explore the town and castle built on limestone rock or take an easy walk to Palava Hills (limestone hills along the Czech-Austrian border, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve with unique flora and fauna). A part of the local castle is restored in the Museum of wine. Nearly every village offers an excellent duality to local wine producers.
    • Later, we can walk through the magnificent park in Lednice, with its fountains, extensive views, castle ruins, and a lake with 15 islands.

Welcome dinner with wine tasting. Accommodation in the hotel was restored from a monastery.

This area is also known for its folklore traditions - the area between the White Carpathians and Chriby Hills is called SLOVACKO, where the most distinctive cultural traditions in the Czech Republic still live. The area below Chriby Hills is also known for excellent quality wines. Stop in the open-air museum in Straznice.

Its history is connected with the first Christian queen of Marcomans, Fridegilda, and the best-known lord of the Moravia land - Svatopluk. The Beech forest around the castle is a part of Chriby Hills.
    • Later, continue to Buchlovice, visiting Buchlovice Chateau (an 18th-century Italian chateau, still containing most of its original Rococo furniture left behind by the family when they fled to Austria in 1945) and the surrounding park. Chateaus wine cellar will give us another opportunity for wine tasting.
    • Visit the little town of Velehrad with its beautiful cathedral (from the 9th century) is one of the most important pilgrimage sites of the Czech Republic. If time allows, we may also stop in Slavkov (Austerlitz), the battle site in December 1805, where Napoleon defeated the Austrians and Russians' allied armies.
