This overland 7-day tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu follows the Sino-Nepal highway and offers an amazing view of the Himalayas and the picturesque Tibetan countryside. You can visit the old cities: Lhasa, Gyantse and Shigatse, which will give you a complete impression of Tibet's religion, cultural treasures, and dreamlike landscape.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Lhasa (3650M) expand_more
    • Arrive in Lhasa either by train or flight. The guide will greet you and take you to your hotel.
    • Enroute to viewing the Yarlung Tsangpo River/ Brahmaputra river (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa river.

    • After arrival in Lhasa, you can take a rest and acclimatize.

    • Feel free to go out and visit Potala Square, where you can enjoy the fountain with different color and get amazing photos of the Potala and the surrounding area. 

    Stay overnight in Lhasa.

  • Day 2: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor street expand_more
    • Today's tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama. It has been used since the 7th Century by the 33rd great king of Tibet.

    • After lunch, head to Jokhang Temple, founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century, to promote the Buddhist religion.

    • Inside, you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve, perhaps the single most venerated object in Tibet Buddhism.

    • Around the temple Barkhor street where you can Kora (circling the Barkor street) with pilgrims and locals and buy souvenirs.

  • Day 3: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery expand_more
    • In the morning, visit Drepung Monastery, one of the “three greet” Gelug monasteries of Tibet and was founded in 1416 by Jamyang choge, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. 

    • Afternoon, Sera Monastery; again, It was one of the “three great” Gelug monasteries of Tibet and was founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chojey, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples.

    • The highlight is the Monks debate at around 3 - 5 in the afternoon.

  • Day 4: Lhasa (3650M) To Shigatse (3900M) expand_more
    • Drive from Lhasa to Gyantse.

    • On the way, pass over the Gampala Pass (4790 m), and tourists will have a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso (4400m). Many snow-capped mountains surround the Lake, and in the distance, you have spectacular views of Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7191m), the highest mountain near Lhasa.

    • Head westward along the lake and drive towards Gyantse. Gyantse was historically Tibet's third-largest city (after Lhasa and Shigatse).

    • In Gyantse, we will visit the famous Pelkor Monastery and Gyantse Kumbum.

    • After one and a half hour's driving, arrive in Shigatse, which is the second-largest city in Tibet. 

    • In Shigatse, visit Tashilunpo Monastery, the seat of Tibet's second highest incarnation, the Panchen Lama.

    Stay Overnight in Shigatse.

  • Day 5: Shigatse (3900M) to Everest Base Camp (5200) expand_more
    • Leave Shigatse after getting your Alien’s travel permit, and then drive to Lhatse. 

    • Have lunch in Lhatse.

    • After that, drive to Shegar, and if the weather is clear enough, then on the way down to Shegar, you will view Mt. Everest in the distance.

    • After 4 to 6 hours, arrive at Rongbuk Monastery. On the way, you will pass one of the highest passes in Tibet (Pang la pass height 5050m). From that’s pass, you can view the five highest peaks in the world.

    Stay overnight at tent or Rongbuk Monastery guest house.

  • Day 6: Everest (5200m) to Old Tingri (4300m) expand_more
    • In the morning, see the sunrise on the top of Mt. Everest and have a full view of the magnificent Mt. Everest standing like a snow-capped pyramid in front of you at Rongbuk, which is the vantage point for watching Mt. Everest. 

    • Trek from tent to Base Camp 4/km one way OR go to EBC via the local bus.

    • After base camp, you can visit Rongphu Monastery, which is the highest monastery in the world (5000m)

    • Drive to Old Tingri, where you can enjoy the beauty of the whole Himalayan range.

    Stay overnight in Tingri.

  • Day 7: Old Tingri(4300m) to Kathmandu via Zhangmu expand_more
    • In the early morning, drive to border - Zhangmu.

    • On the way to Zhangmu, pass a Nyalam Tong pass (5,150) where the Friendship Highway connects Kathmandu, Nepal and Lhasa; Tibet crosses at meters elevation.

    • The road to Zhangmu is not bad, but the altitude and the atmosphere are rapidly changing in front of your eyes. Standing at such an altitude, tourists can enjoy the atmosphere of Zhangmu 2300m and the subtropical climate. 

    • In the afternoon, you will arrive at the border - Zhangmu, and leave for Kathmandu.

    The Guide will drop you off at the border bridge.

Know before you go
  • Please note that you can only be allowed to enter Tibet with Tibet Travel Permit. We will help you to apply for a Tibet permit, but be sure you have a passport which valid for at least 6 months and a Chinese Visa already before your booking.

  • Please book at least 20 days in advance, because we need around 7-14 business days to process your Tibet permit. Any booking made after the time will not be confirmed.
