  • Dai Pottery: Pottery and ceramics technology appeared early in Chinese civilization. At China’s southwest border, the Dai minority community still uses the slow wheel to produce Dai earthware which is widely used in their daily life. Pottery tools generally include pebbles, bamboo spades, wood board, wood hammer, small dustpans, etc. The clay is used as the raw material. They use turntable, drying, and fire procedures. The potteries formed are pots, pans, bowls, etc, among which the most famous is the pot.

  • Dai Tapestry: Tapestry is an art, and Dai brocade is the most renowned of this art form. The Dai brocade is made of silk, wool, and cotton made on a Dai traditional gallows loom. Dai women weave vast strips of a tapestry. Because of its exceptional patterns, gorgeous, colourful, and rich ethnic characteristics, the tapestry enjoys a high reputation the world over.

  • Dai Paper-making: Dai people use the bark of the mulberry tree in their paper-making process. This paper feels very rough but is tough. Handwriting remains indelible for well over hundreds of years. Dai culture and history, notably the Buddha scriptures in Xishuangbanna, have been recorded with this paper.

  • Aini Embroidery: Aini embroidery is the art treasure of the Aini people. Aini girls have to learn embroidery when they reach a certain age. They embroider a great variety of animals in their clothing and handbags; it is not an easy job to make detailed, intricate embroidery on a small bag. Every pattern is unique. It is endurable, has rich ethnic characteristics, and is much loved by the Aini people.
