Gaze at the beautiful stars in the clear Chilean skies on this fascinating evening tour to a private boutique family-run observatory in the foothills of the Andes just outside Santiago.  Enjoy some wine as you peer into the universe! Observe constellations, planets, shooting stars and all types of celestial bodies in the spectacular Chilean skies – the clearest in the entire Southern Hemisphere. This is a fun activity for couples, families, and guests of all ages!

    • Visit the residence of a Chilean astronomer who has built the closest private observatory to Santiago in the Andes' foothills. The evening will include a talk about the stars and constellations seen in the Southern Hemisphere. Then, you will be able to look into the Universe through various telescopes both before and after sunset. Depending on the time of year, you will see different planets, stars, clusters, and nebulae. Venus and Mercury are almost always seen.  We may also see Jupiter and its moons in permanent motion, Mars, and Saturn with its rings.
    • Afterwards, you will be served wine and an assortment of cheeses and snacks as you discuss the marvellous wonders you have seen in the Chilean skies and continue to stargaze.

Know before you go
  • The evenings in Chile can be cold at any time of the year.  It is recommended that you bring a jacket, sweater, and gloves.
  • The entire astronomical experience at the Observatory lasts three hours.
  • Although you will have private transportation, there may be other visitors at the observatory joining you - beyond our control.
