Explore Alerce Andino National Park, a biosphere reserve located 40 km east of Puerto Montt on the Carretera Austral, which offers visitors an opportunity to experience the beauty of the millennial Alerces forest, which covers over 20,000 hectares. Explore the primary forest and observe local birds like the chucao, and after the hike, visit Chapo Lake, which was created by the glacier thaws 20,000 years ago.

    • Hike the Alerce trail, which takes you up to a steep and long ladder where you can contemplate a 3 thousand-year-old specimen of the mythical Alerce tree.
    • Optionally, walk the Sargazo Lagoon trail through the dense forest to the tiny and beautiful Sargazos Lagoon.
    • Afterwards, head back to the cars and visit Chapo Lake, located between Alerce Andino Park to the south and the National Reserve Llanquihue to the north, and surrounded by native forest.
    • Admire the result of glacier thaws from 20,000 years ago that flooded the forest and created the lake, giving us a glimpse of the importance and height of the old forest there millions of years ago.
    • Later, return to Puerto Varas to conclude the tour.
