Continue through the Draa Valley to Zagora for a camel ride over the Ennakhla dunes and a night in a Berber tent, with beautiful sunset and sunrise views in the desert. On the second day, visit Tamagroute for its traditional pottery workshops and its magnificent 17th-century library.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Marrakech to Zagora via Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate

  • After breakfast, depart for Ouarzazate over the High Atlas Mountains through the Tichka Pass. Along the way, you will see Berber villages tucked away on the mountainside.

  • After 3 hours, arrive at Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world's most magnificent kasbahs. This setting has been used for more films than any other location in Morocco, including The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, and Astérix.

  • Continue towards Ouarzazate to visit some of the cinema studios.

  • Then continue to Zagora through the Draa Valley, crossing the magic palm plantation and visiting the very old kasbah.

  • In the afternoon, enjoy a camel trip to the Ennakhla dunes with a 2-hour trek.

  • Spend the night in a Berber tent, where you can take pictures of the sunset and sunrise on the dunes.

Day 02

Zagora, Tamagroute and Return to Marrakech

  • Visit Tamagroute, an underground village, to see traditional pottery workshops.

  • Explore the magnificent library founded in the 17th century, which houses illuminated manuscripts of the Koran written on gazelle skin, as well as works on history and medicine.

  • Eat lunch at Tichka Pass.

  • In the afternoon, return to Marrakech.
