After breakfast, we depart for southern Morocco, crossing the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (2,260 m) — the highest road pass in the country.
The journey south offers breathtaking views of mountain peaks, valleys, and traditional Berber villages perched on hillsides. Along the way, we pass through Ouarzazate, often called the "Gateway to the Sahara", and continue through the Skoura Oasis, the Valley of Roses, and into the stunning Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations and ancient kasbahs.
We’ll witness beautifully preserved fortified villages and gain insight into traditional southern Moroccan life. By late afternoon, we arrive in the village of Tagdilt, where we spend the night in a simple, authentic village house — offering both a warm cultural welcome and the perfect base for beginning our trek the following day.

After breakfast, we meet our trekking crew, who will accompany us over the coming days through the remote landscapes of southern Morocco. Our main luggage is loaded onto trusty mules, allowing us to walk with just a daypack.
We begin our trek through a serene landscape of small oases, where fields of barley are framed by the slopes of fig trees. The trail winds through a beautiful valley before gradually climbing onto the volcanic flanks of the Jebel Saghro range.
This region is known for its dramatic gorges, black rocky peaks, and timeless atmosphere. With luck, we may pass nomadic Aït Atta camps and encounter local shepherds tending their flocks in the high pastures — offering a rare glimpse into traditional mountain life.
We take a short rest before crossing the Tizi Ouzarzam Pass (2,300 m), where panoramic views open up across the rugged landscape. After a steady descent, we reach our first campsite, nestled in nature, where we prepare for a memorable first night under canvas beneath the stars of the Moroccan sky. 4 to 5h walking. camp.
We break camp in Almou and begin today’s walk through the stark and beautiful landscapes of the Jebel Saghro. The trail takes us across rocky plateaus, dry riverbeds, and through narrow gorges, with constantly changing scenery that reflects the wild, volcanic nature of the region.
As we trek, the towering black peaks and deep canyons offer an almost lunar landscape, with occasional sightings of nomadic families or isolated shepherds. The silence and scale of the terrain invite a slower pace, perfect for reflection and immersion in nature.
We pass through areas rich in geological formations, shaped by centuries of erosion, before beginning a gentle descent into the Igli basin — a small, fertile area surrounded by dramatic cliffs. Here, palm trees and small plots of cultivated land begin to reappear, signaling our arrival at Igli, a tranquil spot that often serves as a final or penultimate campsite during Saghro treks. 4 to 5 h walking.
After breakfast in the peaceful oasis of Igli, we begin our trek toward one of the most spectacular landmarks in the Jebel Saghro region: Bab n’Ali — the famous “Gates of Ali.”
The trail leads us through a variety of landscapes: from fertile valleys and cultivated terraces to arid, moon-like plateaus scattered with volcanic rock. As we ascend gently through this dramatic terrain, the views become increasingly expansive, revealing the stark beauty and geological richness of the Saghro mountains.
Along the way, we may pass Aït Atta nomads and their herds, and possibly cross small seasonal rivers depending on the time of year. The environment becomes more rugged and open as we approach Bab n’Ali, two towering rock pinnacles that rise like giant sentinels from the desert floor — a breathtaking natural monument and a highlight of the entire trek.
Departing from the peaceful village of Ighzout, we set out across an arid yet captivating landscape marked by rocky plains, scattered palm groves, and dry riverbeds. The trail leads us steadily toward Tifrit, a small settlement near Nkob, nestled at the edge of the vast desert and the foothills of the Anti-Atlas mountains.
Along the way, we cross traditional Berber villages and may encounter local shepherds and farmers working their land, gaining insight into the rural life that has sustained this region for centuries.
The terrain shifts between gentle slopes and rugged rocky sections, offering varied walking experiences and beautiful views of the surrounding valleys. As we near Tifrit, the landscape opens up to reveal stunning desert vistas framed by distant mountain silhouettes.
Our camp for the night is set near Tifrit, providing a restful haven before continuing deeper into the desert or toward Nkob. Here, under the vast starry sky, we share stories and enjoy a traditional meal prepared by our trekking team.
Today we make our final journey back to Ouarzazate or Marrakech. We head past the snow capped Atlas peaks and across the Draa valley. We stop briefly in Ouarzazate - 'the Hollywood of NorthAfrica' - popular with movie makers as Gladiator, kingdom of heaven, Lawrence of Arabia, the Prince of Persia all being filmed here. wewill drive over Tizi n'Tichka Pass before our afternoon arrival into Marrakech. 7 h driving
