Day 01
Summit Hike from Marrakech to Imlil and Tizi Tamatert
- 8:30 AM: Pick up from your hotel in Marrakech.
- Drive 1 hour 30 minutes to the High Atlas Mountains.
- Arrive at Imlil center (1740 m above sea level).
- Enjoy a breakfast of bean soup and mint tea, followed by a briefing about the day. Begin walking up Tizi Tamatert (2300 m), between the Imlil and Tachdert Valleys.
- Take a quick break at the pass.
- Continue up to the summit of either Tawdja Peak (2600 m) or Tideli Peak (2400 m).
- Enjoy 360° views over the Imnane and Imlil Valleys, with the Agafay Desert in the distance.
- Take pictures at the summit while your guide explains the names of the Atlas summits and valleys, as well as the Berber lifestyle and history.
- Walk down to Imlil, passing two waterfalls.
- Have lunch of local tagine, omelette, and soups in a local café in Imlil, then return to Marrakech with your driver.
The total time spent in the mountains is around 5 hours. The distance is approximately 12 km/8 miles. The elevation gain is 600 m.
