The itinerary

1

Day 01

Marrakech to Imlil and Trek to Toubkal Refuge

• After breakfast, we will drive for 1 hour and 30 minutes to Imlil village, where we will begin the trek.
• Heading along the Ait Mizane Valley, we will first pass Aremd village and then continue to the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch.
• We will then continue east, crossing the flood plains as our route follows mule tracks and climbs into the high rocky cliffs above the valley. After crossing the river, we will eventually reach the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims.
• From here, the trail continues to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline in winter and on to the Toubkal Refuge (3207m), our stop for the night. Approximate walking time is 4 to 5 hours. The height difference between Imlil and the Toubkal hut is 1507m.

Day 02

Summit Mount Toubkal and Return to Marrakech

• Early in the morning, we will make our attempt at the summit of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. Our route takes us up the south cirque, crossing the stream above the refuge. The walking is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make the ascent quite difficult. The views along the way make the journey more than worthwhile.
• When you reach the summit, you will see that the vistas across the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. There are unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and as far south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara.
• We will retrace our steps as we return to the refuge, have lunch, and then head back towards Imlil before continuing to Marrakech. Walking time is 9 to 10 hours. The height difference between the refuge and the Toubkal peak is 960m.

What to bring

• Trekking boots or lightweight walking shoes (having comfortable footwear is essential for a good trek. Make sure all footwear is well broken in prior to your trek. Do not break in boots on your trek).
• A tracksuit and a pair of track shoes to wear in lodges.
• Two pairs of woollen socks for trekking shoes and track shoes.
• A warm down jacket and a rainproof jacket with a hood for protection from rain.
• A warm hat for the cold and a sun hat or cap for sunny days.
• A pair of woollen gloves and a pair of sandals.
• Cotton T-shirts and pairs of long shorts/skirts.
• Woollen shirts and thick sweaters, as well as windproof and waterproof trousers.
• A pair of lightweight or heavyweight trousers and one lightweight long-sleeve shirt.
• Pairs of thermal undergarments.
