8-Day Mount Toubkal Trek from Marrakech through the High Atlas

• Depart from Marrakech in the morning for the Atlas Mountains via Tahannaout and Asni.

• Arrive at Imi Ouglad, where you will meet the team, including muleteers and the cook.

• Start at 1,375 m and cross Imi Ouglad village, heading up through the forest of junipers and oak trees.

• Then arrive at the Tachet pass at 2,150 m, with good views of the Azzaden Valley and Ait Ali Valley.

Spend the night in the Azzaden Valley at a guest house after 5 hours of walking.

• The path takes you out of the Azzaden Valley and up to the pass of Tizi 'n Touati, from where there is a majestic panorama of the High Atlas range.

• Then descend through a forest of oaks and past villages with stone-walled sheep pens.

Overnight at a guest house in Tekent Tizgui (1,850 m, 6 hours of walking).

• Cross the Tizi 'n Tagoudalte pass (2,700 m), from where you have views of the western High Atlas mountain range.

• Then make a long descent through alpine areas overgrown with wildflowers and herbs, and follow a river past terraced fields and groves of walnut trees to the village of Tizi Oussem (1,900 m).

• Enjoy a free afternoon to relax or explore the village.

Overnight in a gite. (7 hours)

• Trek to a small waterfall at Azib Tamsoulte and return to cross the Tizi 'n Mzik pass (2,489 m).

• Enjoy a good view from the pass over the whole valley of Ait Maizane, down to Imlil and up to your guest house in Tamatert (1,850 m, 6 hours of walking).

• Gradually ascend the Toubkal Valley via the pilgrimage hamlet of Sidi Chamarouch to the Toubkal Refuge (3,207 m).

Spend the night at the refuge at the foot of Mt Toubkal. (5/6 hours)

• Have an early start for the challenging trek to the summit of Mt Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, at 4,167 m.

Return to your refuge for the night. (6 hours)

• The trek ends with an easy descent through the village of Sidi Chamarouch to Imlil.

• Bid your Toubkal hiking guide and muleteers a fond farewell, then drive to Marrakech, where the remainder of the day is free.
