Marrakech to Essaouira Atlantic Coast Excursion
Meet your tour guide at the agreed-upon location and leave Marrakech at 8 in the morning. Drive for about 170 km, passing vast landscapes dotted with sheep and goats grazing on argan trees, which grow only in the wild and which the goats climb to eat the berries, as well as the occasional small village.
Stop for an optional argan oil tasting, where the oil is extracted by a small cooperative run entirely by women. Argan oil is very famous for its uses in cooking and especially in cosmetics.
Continue a few kilometres further for a panoramic view of Essaouira, a small blue-and-white town on the beautiful Atlantic coast.
Arrive at the port and enjoy free time to discover its charm at your leisure.
Take a stroll along the lively quays, where you can watch fishing boats returning to the port, fishermen unloading their daily catch, and all the activity linked to their work.
Feast on a cornucopia of freshly caught seafood in a local restaurant overlooking the sea.
Visit the town, which is pleasant and varied in its sights, from the ramparts to the Medina, with your Essaouira guide. In the Medina, you will see a number of local artists and many craft shops, several of them exhibiting objects made of thuya wood. Marquetry remains the speciality of Essaouira, but be aware that the wood is rare and comes with sustainability issues.
Spend part of your day at the beach, if you wish, before returning to Marrakech at 6 or 7 p.m.
