Aim for the highest point of the Atlas on this 2-day trekking tour, while encountering everyday Berber lifestyle and culture along the way. Spend time in the Imlil Valley, trek through mountain trails to visit the Shrine of Sidi Chamharouch, and continue up to the summit of Toubkal for picturesque views of the imposing High Atlas Mountains. The experience also includes traditional meals and close interaction with local Berber hospitality.

After hiking uphill for some 3-4 hours, enjoy a picturesque view of the High Atlas Mountains, valleys and Berber villages.

The itinerary

Day 01

Marrakech to Toubkal Refuge via Imlil and Sidi Chamharouch

Pick-up from your hotel in Marrakech around 8:00 AM. Drive south for 65 kilometres with your Moroccan tour guide to reach Imlil, a Berber village and the starting point of the trek.
Meet the Berber muleteer crew.
Let an experienced mountain Moroccan tour guide lead you on a walk through the Berber villages via the shrine of Sidi Chamharouch (2500 m) to reach the mountain hut.
Stop for a picnic lunch.
Continue towards the Toubkal Refuge (3200 m).
Reach the refuge and enjoy a glass of tasty mint tea, followed by a hot, relaxing shower.

In the evening, savour a traditional Moroccan meal prepared for dinner.

During the summer months, there is an option to spend the night in a tent.

Day 02

Toubkal Summit Ascent and Descent to Imlil

Beat the sun and enjoy an early breakfast around 5:00 AM.
Begin the ascent up Toubkal at 5:30 AM. In the middle of the climb, stop for a short break with some refreshments - water, oranges and nuts.
After hiking uphill for some 3-4 hours, enjoy a picturesque view of the High Atlas Mountains, valleys and Berber villages.
Reach the summit, stay for 45 minutes to take pictures, and enjoy the magnificent view.
Return to the hut, where a hot lunch will await you.
Continue descending until you reach Imlil.
