6-Day Mt. Toubkal Trek from Marrakech via Ifni Lake and Imlil

• You will be picked up from Marrakech after breakfast at 9:00 a.m. and drive to Imlil via Asni. Imlil is the principal trailhead for walkers and a busy market town that is well worth a visit.

• Meet your guide and mule team in Imlil, then set off along the valley towards Tacheddirt, some 8 km from Imlil. The trail climbs to the pass at Tizi n'Tamatert (2279m), then descends to the beautiful village of Ouanesekra before continuing on to Tacheddirt (2314m), where you will spend the night camping by the riverside.

• Start your day with a long, slow ascent across the valley and up to the pass at Tizi Likemt (3555m). It is fairly tough going, with a long climb and loose scree underfoot. From the pass, there is a fine view of Toubkal and its sister peaks.

• Then make a long downhill descent to the village of Azib Likemt (2600m), where you will camp for the night.

• Walk through a variety of landscapes as you enjoy more fantastic views of Toubkal and the Ifni Dome from Tizi N'Ouirgane (3120m). The trek on this day will be easier than the previous ones.

• The trail continues towards Amsourzerte (1797m), arguably one of the nicest villages in the region, where you will spend the night in a simple village gite.

• Heading west out of Amsourzerte, pass through several small villages on your way towards Ifni Lake, the only lake in the High Atlas Mountains. The lake is surrounded by towering peaks, scree, and rubble, and it is a pleasant place to set camp and spend the afternoon relaxing by the shore.

• Stay the night at the camp.

• Take a long, steep path up a scree slope towards the pass at Tizi n'Ouanoums (3684m). From here, it is a long zigzag descent down a precipitously steep scree slope to Nelter Hut, a mountain refuge where you will spend the night. Please note that the trek on this day will be hard.

• The dorms at the Neltner tend to be crowded with other trekkers aiming to tackle Toubkal early the next morning, so in summer, when the weather allows, people typically camp at the refuge.

• Stay the night at the mountain refuge or camp.

• Get up early in the morning for the ascent of Toubkal (4,167m). It is a challenging trek to the summit and, weather permitting, you will be rewarded for your efforts with incredible views over the Atlas Range and the Sahara Desert.

• After the glory of the summit, retrace your steps to the Toubkal Mountain Refuge and then follow the well-trodden path back to Imlil, passing the holy Muslim site of Sidi Charmmharouch.

• Arrive in Imlil and head back to Marrakech, where you will reach by early evening.
