5 Days Nature tour itinerary for Cusco: Ausangate Trek Cusco-Peru
Ausangate Trek 5d/ 4n is one beautiful treks taking place in Cusco Region, away from the sometimes crowded treks in these areas. Here you will appreciate this spectacular Andean views connecting with nature of the Peruvian mountain and their people learning about and traditions and hiking altitudes from 3800m - 5200 m.
Transfer Cusco Hotel-Tinki (3,800 masl)
We leave Cusco early in the morning for our trip, three hours by private transportation to the small town of Tinqui (metros/12.[sensitive content] feet).
As Tinqui is in the new Inter-Oceanic Highway, you can now get much faster than in previous years.
We pass through beautiful countryside and several traditional villages as Urcos Cattca and Ocangate.
After lunch at Tinqui, the first 3 hours of the road are wonderful prelude to the magnificent landscape of the Cordillera Vilcanota, with great views of Ausangate.
Walk two hours to reach the hot springs in Upis (metros/14.432 4,400 feet), offering fantastic views of Ausangate at the end of the valley.
We camp here for the night (4-5 hours trekking).
Upis-Arapa Pass-Ausangate Pass & Lake
In the morning we cross the open Arapa (4850 meters / 15,908 feet).
From here, continue 3 ½ hours down the valley, past the green lagoon Puqa Q’ocha down to the turquoise waters of the lagoon Puqa Q’ocha Khatun.
Then climb the second pass of Apuchata (4,900 meters / 16,072 feet), overlooking the stunning lagoon Ausangate Q’ocha blue and turquoise waters.
This lake is fed by the melting snow of Ausangate. Camp here the second night.
Ausangate Lake - Palomani Pass-Campa Pampa
From the lake, we ascend towards the open Palomani (5,200 meters / 17,056 feet) – the highest point of the trek. From the opening we follow the path into the valley where we can rest and have lunch. In the afternoon you can enjoy views of the snowy Tres Picos and Puca Punta.
Continue through the broad green valley of Pampa Jutunpata and up the valley of the River Q’ampa.
We spend the third night in this area Campa Pampa Camp4 - 600 MASL.
Hike Jampa (5 100 MASL) to Pacchanta Camp site 4 - 450 MASL
After passing through the small community of Q’ampa, we head northwest to the last pass of this trek – open Q’ampa (metros/16.400 5,000 feet).
We will see several lakes of different colors and have lunch beside Q’oma Q’ocha.
Walk for several hours before reaching the small town of Pacchanta.
We can enjoy the hot springs for a couple of hours and even take a well deserved beer!
We will establish a camp near Pacchanta and will have the afternoon free to explore this interesting Andean village. (You have the option of staying in a basic hostel tonight).
Pacchanta and Back To Cusco
3 hrs Tinqui walk back to where we will have time to explore this traditional Andean village before taking private transport back to Cusco, arriving at approximately 18.00. or earlier depending what time we start this day.
