The itinerary

1
Day 01

Marrakech, High Atlas Mountains, Aït Benhaddou and Dades Valley

  • We will pick you up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech and drive toward the High Atlas Mountains, North Africa's highest mountain range, enjoying the beautiful scenery of fertile valleys along the way.
  • We will cross the Tizi N'Tichka Pass at 2,260 m, then drive through dramatic Berber villages alongside the Ounila Valley to reach the famous Kasbah of Aït Benhaddou. This fortified village has buildings that mostly date back to the 12th century, and the site was recognized by UNESCO in 1987.
  • The kasbah has also served as a backdrop for many international movies and series such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
  • We will escort you through this authentic traditional site and walk you along its small mudbrick alleys to reach the granaries, the most fortified spot in the kasbah.
  • We will have lunch in a local restaurant beside the kasbah and then continue to Ouarzazate, known as the cinema capital of Morocco for its film studios and movie sets.
  • In the center of the city, we will visit one of the ancient kasbahs, Kasbah Taourirt. It is a pleasant stop before we continue toward the Valley of Roses through the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs.
  • Next, we will drive through the Valley of Roses to reach the Dades Valley, a range of dramatic landscapes filled with fields of wheat, walnuts, and figs.
  • At the end of the day, we will drop you at your riad or hotel in the Dades Valley.

Overnight in Dades Valley at Dar Blues.

Day 02

Dades Gorges, Tinghir, Todgha Gorges and Merzouga Desert

  • We will meet again at your riad or hotel in the Dades Valley and continue driving through these dramatic landscapes.
  • Our first stop will be in Tinghir, a busy mining transit town that used to be one of the most important trading positions for caravans. A few kilometres from town, a palm oasis unfolds like a green umbrella, and beside it lies an abandoned village from the 19th century.
  • Next, we move on to Todgha Gorges, a 300 m orange canyon with a crystal-clear river running between the limestone walls.
  • Our journey toward the desert continues as we drive through the Anti-Atlas Mountains via different Berber towns, villages, and oases.
  • Along the way, we will see many nomads tending their sheep, goats, and camels. We will reach Erfoud, a small city before the desert, known for fossils and as one of Morocco's most important places for dates.
  • A 40-minute drive from Erfoud takes us to Merzouga Desert. We will arrive at a hotel by the dune lines before sunset, with time to relax and use the facilities before joining your camels. Your camel guide will escort you through the Erg Chebbi dunes, with a memorable stop at the highest dune to enjoy the spectacular sunset.
  • After that, you will continue your camel trek to our desert camp, where we will meet again and enjoy a traditional Berber music live show around the fireplace.

Day 03

Merzouga Desert, Rissani Souq, Draa Valley and Ouarzazate

  • An early wake-up for sunrise is recommended so you can enjoy one of the most spectacular moments of the trip and capture the morning light over the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi.
  • Next, a 4x4 vehicle will take you to the hotel by the dune lines, where we will meet again and leave the desert. Our first stop will be in Rissani, where we will take a walk through the souq, a local market where people gather to sell products such as dates, vegetables, animals, and everyday necessities.
  • After visiting the souq, we will drive through Alnif and N'Kob and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Draa Valley with its magical palm tree oases.
  • Then, we will cross the Aït-Saouen mountain pass to reach Ouarzazate, where we will spend the night.

Overnight in Ouarzazate at Dar Amoudou.
