First Trip To Africa

Reviewed October 3, 2016

Willie guided four of us around Cape Town's Table Mountain and wine country before heading out to four different game camps and Victoria Falls. The 14 day trip was flawless and totally awesome. Willie is extremely knowledgeable about animals, birds, plants, and trees. The experience with Willie was one stop shopping, he took care of every detail. His ability to speak several languages and pleasant personality made every aspect of the trip easy and enjoyable. We highly recommend Willie and hope to go back to Africa.

Guided Self Drive through Botswana and Zimbabwe

Reviewed November 5, 2014

Willie made all the arrangements for trucks, camping kits, camp sites or camp grounds and logistics. WHere to get food and fuel, border crossings, national park access. That was one of the highlights, willie made arangements with Hwange National Park to allow us to camp two nights within the wildlife viewing compounds that overlook water holes. Saw more Lions that way. To the unknowing park visitor, the park closes at 6 pm. All visitors must be back at the gates by that time. So, we had a exclusive experience, miles from others. Each compound had a fence ( in such poor repair, it would keep any wildlife out anyway), a shower and flush toilets, and even akitchen. Each had a park employee stationed there to assist with firewood and game information. This kind of trip is not for everyone, but for the true adventure minded traveler. Most importantly, it is the most affordable way to see REAL Africa.

What a trooper

Reviewed October 21, 2014

We had a group of two families (7 people in total) who all wanted slightly different experiences, and had varying levels of experience with the African bush and camping; Willie put up with it all and managed to provide amazing and tailored experiences that suited everyone in the end. He also provided an incredibly smooth- and safe-feeling trip through Botswana into Zimbabwe, which must have been a challenge. Given his experience and expertise in not only 'roughing it' in Africa, but also the cultures and societies through which we passed, I'm sure this was old hat for him. Overall a great adventure, great memories, and excellent photographs resulted!

Customizable, personalized tours with this very knowledgeable and patient guide!

Willie Vermaak took a group of us (7) on a custom tour around Botswana and Zimbabwe. We were able to determine how many days we could spend, what we wanted to do, and on what budget. Willie tailored the tour to our needs and wants, and I have to say it was one of the best adventures of my life. On our trip specifically, we camped in tents the whole time – in National Parks campsites, for example - and cooked our own food. This made for a less expensive adventure for us, but honestly, it made for a much more authentic and amazing. Going to sleep with the sound of hippos grunting miles off and waking up to impala tracks near our camp was mind-blowing. Being less of a tourist and more of a part of the landscape helped me "unplug" from the speed of my work life back home and focus on every singing bird, every beautiful sunset, and thrill of seeing a full half hemisphere of sky instead of the sliver of gray between city buildings that I'm used to seeing. Willie was the one reminding us to notice these things, what they were, and how these plants and animals related to one another in the greater ecosystem. Willie has a good sense of humor. He is patient. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of the flora, fauna, history, and culture of the area. I filled an entire journal with notes from what I was learning from him. He knows Africa like the back of his hand. Something that I appreciated is that he is actually a fantastic photographer, which comes in handy when you want an incredibly beautifully composed photograph of your group as you go through the different areas. That's a bonus! If you are interested in visiting Africa, book through Willie. You will NOT be disappointed. He offers a customized tour. He is trustworthy. He plans out the trip for you. He works with your budget. He knows where the most incredible parts of the country are and will take you there.
