After Touring with Desi, Bulgaria is my Favorite European Country

Reviewed October 18, 2018

I've traveled the world for the past 12 years, visiting more than 100 countries and territories. I've worked with scores of local guides and tour companies, but I can honestly say that Desi at Undiscovered Bulgaria is the absolute, hands-down best tour guide ever. I always appreciate seeing the iconic sites, like Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Sofia, but even more exciting for me is to immerse in the local culture and interact with the locals. Undiscovered Bulgaria provided this precise experience. I saw stunning geologic landscapes, stood a foot from some of the oldest prehistoric cave paintings in the world, visited a woman who still weaves carpets using ancient methods, saw ancient ruins (including one of the oldest Roman amphitheaters in Europe), and even attended a virtually unknown local festival where locals performed songs and dances that have been handed down through the centuries. Through it all, Desi was exuberant about her love for Bulgaria. I highly recommend Undiscovered Bulgaria to anyone who wants to get to know this fascinating country.

A unnique opportunity

We had planned to extend our beach holiday week with sightseeing, good food, pubs, clubs in Sofia. As we were not really excited about a day trip to the Rila monastery, we booked the tour of Desi and Niki. It was surprisingly good...fantastic. The nature, great food, historical sites is the perfect break before return home to the daily office life. We could fully enjoy without worrying about the trip. You see real nice native people and communties, their traditions, interesting places with natural beauty and so on. I am not a real fan of mountains and was surprised from the diversity of the country. The tour offers also a good taste of history.
