Kilimanjaro - Machame Route

Reviewed November 24, 2015

Dennis was a great guide and very helpful on the hike. I could not have done it without his support and guidance especially on summit night/day. He definitely pushed me but also gave me my time and space when I needed it.

Mt Kiimanjaro (Machame route) October 2015 (3rd week)

Reviewed November 5, 2015

I enjoyed my climb, but it was very challenging for me, due to my problems in accurately assessing depth of stairs and rocks, plus my compensated balance issues, due to hearing loss. I also had a viral infection in my lungs from South Africa, which became more problematic, the higher we climbed--it did zap some of my energy. My primary guide , CEO Dao (sp?) was fabulous--he really encouraged me to keep trying, and was always close by to offer his hand for stability--that gave me the confidence to keep going--even though I was literally terrified of some of the trails we had to travel over. I could not hve went as far as I did without his help. This was a test of endurance for me, and I did well, up to the end and final ascent--when my lungs finally gave out. I did the 7 day Machame route with my friend and 10 other people.. nice size for traveling together with All the CEO's including Dennis and climb staff, porters and cooks were awesome. If my girlfriend and I (both 65 and older) were feeling overwhelmed-- they offered different strategies to help us finish the daily trek including carrying our day packs and suggesting using energy gel supplement (which did help me!)

A trip to remember

Reviewed September 17, 2015

I climbed Kilimanjaro last year and it was the first thing I did when I arrived in Africa. They made me feel safe, comfortable and welcome in Tanzania. The hike was spectacular and Denis was a friendly face throughout. Very positive, happy, and supportive. His English could use a little work but what he lacked, he made up for with kindness and genuine compassion. He was our groups medic and he stayed with a couple who has severe altitude sickness along their 14h accent to the summit. He was cautious and frequently checked their vitals, in the end he got them up to the top so that they could receive all the money they fundraised for a school. Dennis is a good guy and a great guild.

Great guy with relevant medical knowledge

Mr Dennis Shayo is a friendly guide with endless strength and a great sense of humour. He took a medical course and demonstrated through our conversations that he knows how to handle emergencies and altitude sickness. You feel completely safe with him. He knows about the flora and fauna of Kilimanjaro and seems very familiar with the tracks. Also he is a volunteer at a an orphanage in the ourskirts of Moshi. My warmest recommendations for Dennis.
