Extraordinary Service and Amazing Team

Reviewed July 24, 2019

I arrived in Ethiopia on June 22 as a member of an American humanitarian and literacy mission group. Our work focused primarily on a school in the rural mountains in South Central Ethiopia, but also included a couple of orphanage of simien trekking  Tours was an essential and significant member of our team as guide and interpreter. He made himself available at any hour for educational tours, nighttime entertainment and unique cultural experiences. His witty, self-deprecating humor made the necessary long mission drives a delight that I actually looked forward to by the end of the trip. I laughed... a lot. But what was truly exceptional was the commitment and personal contribution that simien trekking tours made in the trip's objectives. He was an active participate in the mission work when other guides (from another company) were merely drivers/observers. He was a vocal advocate, as well as compassionate playmate for the children/students. He invested his time, his passion and his skills to assist his people. Many times I watched as he took the remainder of his meal to share with those who were hungry or give of his wages to those in need. I greatly admired his integrity and work ethic. The trip was life changing for me, and Ermias was a significant part of that experience.

So, without hesitation, I recommend simien tours is responsive, trustworthy, knowledgeable and competent...detail oriented so that your needs are met before you even anticipate them.

great experience with Yigzaw Tours

The trip really did highlight the places I wanted to see and the tour leaders, Dave and Fentahun are very friendly and hospitable. Accommodations were very good and the transportation was comfortable and roomy. Overall the stops were terrific and gave me a chance to learn something about the history and culture. Some of the guides were very good while others were so-so or really not good. It would have been very helpful if announcements about upcoming departures, itineraries, plans for groups events, etc. were announced on the bus prior to taking place. Communication definitely needs to be better. Tour  was excellent in communicating but too much rain ,somepeople were slow walking and the guide walk so fast , as well as alternative transportation for people with walking difficulties as some missed tours because of their inability to walk steep hills. Also the itinerary could contain some more information on the stops, a quick cut and paste from a website would satisfy. I'd definitely recommend travelers to take this tour. Yigzaw Tours is the easy way to find group travel in ETHIOPIA

Excellent! Strongly recommended!

.We (5people) did the 10days tour about a few days ago, and we were really happy with how everything went. The tour was very well organized and covered all expenses including entrance fees for all sights, food and non-alcoholic drinks. There was basically no need to buy anything except for souvenirs. After a warm welcome at the airport in Addis Ababa, we were taken to our hotel by our driver and the local guide and did a nice tour around the city center of Addis Ababa. Overall, the guide was very flexible and whenever we asked for something, for instance going for a short walk at the Merkato, the guide would make it possible. Our next destination was Axum that we reached by plane. The plane tickets had also been organized by simien Yigzaw tours in advance and we were picked up by our driver in the morning to go to the airport. When we reached Axum, a new local guide and driver were already waiting for us and we were taken to our next hotel. Everything went smoothly and we had a great time in Axum visiting the famous steles. The following destinations included (among other places) Lalibela, Simien mountain, Gondar, Bahir Dar and Lake Tana. Everything was very well organized at all these places, we were always welcomed by a local guide and driver and were accompanied wherever we went. It was always very important to the guides that we were happy and they even suggested an evening program (going to local bars and restaurants to eat traditional food and see traditional dancing) at different places. They took us there, the guides stayed with us and we were then back to our hotels afterwards. This was very nice as we did not need to walk on the streets alone in the dark. moOverall, we can strongly recommend Yigzaw tours and the program of the 10day tour. We had a very interesting time in Ethiopia.

Amazing 3-day trek in beautiful scenery

Reviewed June 10, 2017

We did a 3-day trek with Simien Mountain Yigzaw Tours the Simiens for $230 USD. We took a 13 hour bus (Salem Bus Company is really nice) from Addis to Gondar at 5 a.m. for 450 birr. We were then picked up by the tour company that drove us to Debark to set us up with guides, cooks, and guards and then we were dropped off in the Simien Mountain National Park. The views are absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The hikes are moderate difficulty. Mules take all of your gear and the tour company provides the camping equipment. The tents are already set up when you arrive at camp as well as hot tea/coffee/cookies. The cooking was phenomenal. We felt so spoiled with spaghetti, delicious veggie soup, roasted beets, the contacting by email was so fast and we wired the advanced money before we landed ethiopia and he is trust worthy !  Would definitely recommend company  !

best tour ever

My boyfriend and I had limited time in Ethiopia and wanted to make the most of it. We headed to Gondor in a quest to see the Simiens and literally stumbled across Yigsaw and Simien Trekking Tours. Im usually wary of people who approach us and offer tours but there was something warm and personable about Yigsaw, so we trusted him to show us a good time. Not only did he book an amazing tour for us but, after overhearing my desire to see a traditional coffee ceremony, he invited us to his house for one. We had the privilege of meeting his family and friends.

We we ended up doing a 2 day 1 night hike, but wish we had had more time. The hiking itself was difficult for me, I have never walked at such altitude, but the tour guide was encouraging and knowledgeable. The views were spectacular and the wildlife breathtaking (you can get so close to the gelada monkeys!)

On our return to Gondor Yigsaw helped us find a great hotel in Bahir Dar and a tour guide for Lake Tana. Even helped me secure a surprise birthday cake for my boyfriends birthday.

I can't say enough about how awesome this whole experience was. Im forever grateful!
