His guide services were so excellent in 2013, I rehired him again for a 2014 trek

Reviewed July 18, 2015

This is a testimonial for Sanjeeb Chhetri, otherwise known as the Himalayan Knight, whose quality of service was so good for my November 2013 trek to Annapurna Base Camp/Sanctuary that I rehired him in November 2014 to trek Langtang and Gosaikunda. I am a very demanding traveler, whose work for multinational development agencies and the United Nations has taken me far afield. So my rehiring of Sanjeeb should say a lot. Don't let his youthful appearance fool you, Sanjeeb is a professional's professional, with mountain experience and military Gurkha training. For my 2013 trek, I hired Sanjeeb through an agency. I asked the agency to find me someone who spoke English well and enjoyed communicating. Sanjeeb completely fit the bill. His English and sense of humor are excellent. And he is knowledgeable about the Himalayas, Nepal, and other subjects as well. On my 7-day Annapurna Base Camp trek, at times when I was tired he carried my pack as well as his own. The second day of the trek, we teamed up with a Chilean solo trekker 25 years younger than I. I mention this because Sanjeeb treated him as if he were also his client and, therefore, set a steady pace that was not over-taxing for me and just fine for our younger trekker companion. Throughout the trek, Sanjeeb called ahead to ensure we had accommodations for the night. And when we arrived at each guest house, he handled everything from ordering our meals to drying our clothes, and locating and helping me buy hard-to-find gear along the way. In 2014, I contacted Sanjeeb by email to hire him directly for an October/November 2014 Annapurna circuit trek. I had planned to fly to Pohkara to meet him there, however, the freak snowstorm and avalanches that hit Nepal closed the trail. So when I arrived, I contacted him to meet me in Katmandu. In Katmandhu, where he previously lived and went to school, Sanjeeb guided me through the city during the five-day annual light festival. (One highlight was the personal tour he gave me of the Palace.) We then headed for Langtang and Gosaikunda for a 14-day trek. And whereas, we could have taken the traditional "easy" south-side trek up the river valley through the forest, he gave me the option of a "side-of-the-mountain" north-side trail, which offered breathtaking views and had far fewer trekkers. Of note, is the fact that because of Sanjeeb's Gurkha training I always felt incredibly safe. He also offers "yoga" treks for those wanting a bit more. If you are planning a trek in Nepal I wholeheartedly recommend Sanjeeb to you. You will not find a more friendly, energetic, knowledgeable, patient and upbeat guide anywhere.
