Let's start with the good point: the weather was nice, the guide pleasant and knowleadgeable.

We booked a 2 days tour, little Petra and Petra.

The first day we were taken to Little Petra, visited it (indeed it is ... little) and then we boarded a local transport (and were asked to pay 5JD each for that; that was quite a surprise since we paid 758€ for the 2 day tour and we felt it should have been included ...). The "shattle" took us at the start of a (long) walk with many steps that took us to the Monastery.   The view was spectacular and we enjoyed the (long) walk. It is close to 5 km, so be aware of it. In our case, winter, the cool temperature helped. In Summer time it may be a bit too much.

The Monastery is fine, we got plenty of details from the guide. Then downhill into Petra. The guide provided us with much information and we took the left "lane" towards the exit coasting the big tumbs on the mountain walls. We asked to get close but we were told we will have time on the second day, Fair enough.

The guide also showed us the end of the trail we will have to walk on the second day telling us that ww will see several dwellings and tumbs on that walk.  By 4 pm we were at the exit point. The guide suggested an early start for the second day, 7am, but when we asked how long should we expect the walk and he said 4 hours we opted for a 9am start (no sense getting up that early). HE said fine, see you tomorrow.

A nice day, some 12 km in total.  At six thirty the manager of the Jordan tour came to check with us at our hotel (and to get the payment -we already sent an advance) and we mentioned we were surprised having to  pay 20JD (4 people) after having paid 758€. HE was kind enough to give us back to 20JD.

Second day, We started the walk and immediatelly noticed the guide seemed to be in a hurry. We went up to the top of the sacrifice peak, some 450 steps and there the guide showed us from the above the trail we should take to go down to the basin. He said the trail was well marked and it was our free time. He left us there on our own. We paid for two days we got one day and 2 hours!!!!

Anyhow we went down the trail, many interesting sites, a pity not having a guide with us to tell about them.

In the afternoon, after we went to see the big tumbs on the mountain wall, we headed towards the exit and we saw  our guide with another group. All became clear. He had another tour to lead and dropped us.

Still we have paid for 2 days!!!

At the exit we asked at the boot of the local tour guide. The official price for a full dat tour guide is 150JD (200€). Basically paying 450€ (to include the taxi fare to from the hotel to  the visitor centre) we would have  got  a real two full days guided  tour.

Make up your mind on this,  if we were to come back we would not  take this tour. It is not just having  paied 300€ extra, it is about having had the guide only  for one day and two hours!!!
