Zhisheng Wu, who uses the English name Tom, is exceptional. He served as our guide during during our time in Guilin and Yangshou. Overall we were in China for just over two weeks and had a total of five guides. Tom was the best -- he stood out for his attention to detail, easygoing manner (I was traveling with my ten year old daughter), and knowledge of the local area. Here is an example of what was typical of our experience -- One of the things we did was visit the rice terraces in Longjing. It was a complete downpour for the drive out and during our walk up the mountain. About half way to the top, we decided to take a break and get lunch. We were shaking off the rain and about to order tea when suddenly Tom came out of nowhere and said we needed to get up the mountain quickly. He had noticed the rain was beginning to stop and the rain clouds were lifting out of the valley. He warned us that we didn't have much time because new clouds were forming just below. He was 100% correct and his timing was perfect! We stayed ahead of the clouds our entire assent and had magical views and fabulous photos the entire time. We made it to the top and stood in awe for five minutes of breathtaking views before the clouds began to fill the space. About 2 minutes after the clouds were rolling over the view, all the other folks out that day to get a look began to arrive. I couldn't believe how fortunate we were and it was all thanks to Tom. I can't recommend him highly enough -- request him and be confident that you will have a great experience!
