Day by day

The itinerary

Day 01

Marrakech to Aït Bouguemez and Ikkis Arous

Leave Marrakech early by minibus to reach the valley of Aït Bouguemez, the "Happy Valley," after a 4.5-hour drive.
Have lunch and continue towards Azilal, crossing the Oughbar Pass (2200 m), with panoramic views of the Tizal, Azourki, M'goun, and Rat mountain ranges.
Take a long descent on a winding road towards the valley of Ait Abbes, before returning to the valley of Ait Bouguemez.
Leave the rich valley of Ait Bouguemez for the smaller valley of Arous. Passing through the village of Ait Said, the path rises towards the sheepfold of Azib'n Ikkis at 2300 m.

Dinner and overnight in the bivouac.

Day 02

Ikkis Arous to the Tarkeddit Plateau

Slowly climb towards the Tarkedit Pass (3400 m) via easy muleteer's paths.
Take a break to enjoy the magical sight from the summit of Mgoun (4068 m).
Make a short descent towards the Tarkeddit plateau, frequented by nomads.

Dinner and overnight in the bivouac.

Day 03

Summit Mount M'Goun and Descend to Arous

Leave early for a long day, following a path that will take you to the top.
Continue through varied terrain, with masses of fallen rocks and pebbles, before the trail becomes a normal path again, with one stop at the end of the way.
Take a short break before tackling the crest, a path that becomes easier once you have reached the summit.
Enjoy your picnic at noon and begin the most spectacular part of the trek.
Descend over a mass of fallen rocks, joining the springs of the Ifri valley.
Encounter the herds of transhumants and observe nomads' life.
Camp near the source of Oulilim.

Day 04

Arous to Aït Bougmez and Return to Marrakech

Relax after crossing the pass at 3300 m and descend into the valley of Arous.
Have lunch, then follow the waters of the wadi through the villages until you arrive at the valley.
Return to Marrakech.
