Description

Trek to Mount Toubkal on a 3-day tour. Explore the Atlas Mountains and Berber villages. Experience the local lifestyle during the trek. Discover the south of Morocco and head to the beautiful sand dunes. Visit Jebel Toubkal, which is North Africa’s highest mountain.

  • Day 1 : Reach Toubkal Refuge expand_more
    • Meet at the famous Jamaa El Fna (or pick up from the hotel if accessible by car).
    • Head towards the High Atlas Mountains, enjoy the ride with a scenic road through the mountains.
    • Arrive at Imlil Village. Meet and greet the local guide.
    • Begin the adventure heading along the Mizane Valley; first towards the village of Aremd, and then visit Sidi Chamarouch.
    • Continue east and cross the flood plains. Follow the mule tracks up to the high rocky cliffs above the valley.
    • Cross the river, and reach the pastoral shrine of Sidi Chamarouch.
    • Reach the village that sits beside a small waterfall, a jumbled cluster of houses that seem to melt together into an anarchic mass. 
    • Continue to climb steadily, snaking and zigzagging its way up to the snowline and the Toukbal Refuge (3206m). 

    Stop for the night. Approx 5hrs.

  • Day 2 : Trek to Toubkal Summit (4167m) expand_more
    • Early morning, start for the summit of Jebel Toukbal, the highest peak in Northern Africa.
    • Follow the route up to the South Cirque, and cross the stream above the refuge.  
    • Head towards the mountain's numerous scree fields, pass the endless carpet of boulders and rocks. The walk is relatively straightforward, but the scree and the altitude will make this difficult in parts.
    • Enjoy the views along the way that makes the journey worthwhile. 
    • Cresting the ridgeline, reach the plateau. It is a short walk to the summit, and the vistas around the surrounding landscape are quite breathtaking. 
    • Enjoy the unrestricted views in every direction, from the Marrakesh Plain to the High Atlas in the north and south to the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. 
    • Trek down the mountain and head back to the hut for a second-night stay.
  • Day 3 : Return to Marrakech expand_more
    • Spend some time to enjoy the views and scenery of the High Atlas Mountains.
    • Return to Imlil village, and have lunch in one of the local restaurants.
    • Drive back to Marrakech.
