Considered one of the most beautiful ancient cities in China, Lijiang is located in the Yunnan province near Tibet.
Three of the ancient districts of this small city are UNESCO World Heritage sites. With a history stretching way back to the late Song Dynasty of China, Lijiang has more than its fair share of interesting historical sites including the Old Town, where a nightly bonfire is held at 7pm, and the Mu Palace complete with Daoist temple. The mighty Yangtze River passes through Lijiang , overlooked by the famous Jade Dragon, or ‘Yulong’, Snow Mountains. You can explore the mountains by hiring a mule, ambitiously hiking to the top or more commonly, paying for a cable car. The view of the mountain massif from the gardens of the Black Dragon Pool is considered one of the most stunning views in all of China.
Lijiang travel guides are available to show you around this gentle city, but don’t be afraid to ask for help; the local culture of Lijiang is a joy and its people among the friendliest in Asia.
