Home to the mighty Mosikalamosikala, ‘the Smoke that Thunders’, Victoria Falls is a welcoming town of truly epic stature perched on the south banks of the Zambezi River. Located just a stone’s throw from the natural wonder that is its namesake, the town represents the best jump off point for visitors looking to explore the world’s largest waterfall.
As a magnet for outdoorsy types, Victoria Falls also plays host to a number of well-established adventure tour guides and operators that can organise excursions in the wilds around town. These range from high-adrenaline white water rafting in the Zambezi gorges and bungee jumping off Victoria’s bridges, to sunset cruises on the slow waters above the falls.
The town itself has developed quickly in recent years, with top-class hotels and boutique eateries opening up en masse. But, despite the modernity, Victoria Falls is still undeniably rugged in its proximity to nature and its sprawling antique markets still ooze with an authentic Zimbabwean charm.
