Cusco to Machu Picchu and Back
At 5 am, leave your hotel in Cusco and travel to the train station in Ollantaytambo, about 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car.
Board the train to Aguas Calientes. Upon arrival at the train station, a Peru guide will be waiting for you.
Explore Aguas Calientes, known as the gateway to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.
Next, head to the bus station and ascend a 400-metre-high zigzag path for 30 minutes to reach the incredible Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, known as the Lost City of the Incas.
Upon arrival at the citadel of Machu Picchu, visit the city's main venues such as the Main Square, Circular Tower, Sacred Solar Clock, Royal Rooms, Temple of the Three Windows, and cemeteries. The guided tour will last for two hours.
Afterward, take a walk around the citadel and visit Machu Picchu on your own.
Return to the town of Aguas Calientes and have lunch at one of the restaurants.
In the afternoon, take the train back to Ollantaytambo and continue to your hotel in Cusco.
