Itinerary

1. Day 1: Karatu to Olduvai Gorge, Shifting Sands, Laetoli and Ngorongoro Conservation Area

   • Begin with breakfast at your accommodation in Karatu.

   • Meet your safari guide for a short briefing before starting your journey.

   • Depart by 4x4 vehicle towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

   • Drive through scenic landscapes and local villages as you ascend the Great Rift Valley escarpment.

   Visit Olduvai Gorge Museum and Viewpoint

   • Explore the Olduvai Gorge Museum, where you will learn about archaeological discoveries made by the Leakey family.

   • Discover early hominid fossils and stone tools that define this area as the "Cradle of Mankind."

   • Proceed to the viewpoint overlooking the gorge for a dramatic and informative perspective.

   Enjoy a Packed Lunch

   • Have lunch at a designated site within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

   Visit Shifting Sands

   • Continue to the Shifting Sands, a crescent-shaped dune of black volcanic ash that slowly moves across the plains due to wind patterns.

   Visit Laetoli Footprints

   • Explore the significance of the Laetoli Footprints, fossilized footprints estimated to be 3.6 million years old.

   • View the preserved site or visit a replica display to understand this extraordinary piece of human history.

   Proceed to Ngorongoro Accommodation

   • Drive towards your lodge or tented camp within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

   • Check in, enjoy dinner, and relax for the evening.

   • Your guide will brief you about the plan for the next day’s Ngorongoro Crater descent.

2. Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive and Return to Karatu/Arusha

   • Wake up early for breakfast at your accommodation.

   • Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

   • Enjoy panoramic views during the descent into the crater floor.

   Morning Game Drive in the Ngorongoro Crater

   • Experience an extensive game drive on the crater floor, renowned for its exceptional concentration of wildlife.

   • Have opportunities to spot the "Big Five" which includes lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.

   • Encounter other wildlife such as wildebeest, zebra, hippos, hyenas, and various bird species.

   Picnic Lunch

   • Enjoy a picnic lunch at the hippo pool or another designated spot within the crater, surrounded by the wildlife and stunning scenery.

   Afternoon: Return to Karatu/Arusha

   • Ascend from the Ngorongoro Crater after the game drive.

   • Begin your drive back towards Kaaratu/Arusha, enjoying the changing landscapes along the way.

   Evening: Arrival 

   • Arrive back in Karatu/ Arusha by late afternoon or early evening.

   • Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or preferred location.
