Escape the summer heat on this 4-hour excursion to the hidden Oxena Waterfall, about 1 hour from Catania. Set near Militello in Val di Catania, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002, this experience combines a gentle walk with a short water trekking route along the Oxena River. Surrounded by a huge lava flow, the waterfall is a little-known spot, even among many Sicilians. Once there, you can relax, swim, enjoy a snack, and take in this refreshing natural setting at your own pace.

With rock shoes on, we begin making our way up the river, walking in the water and over some of the surrounding lava stones to reach the Oxena Waterfall.

The itinerary

Day 01

Meet at Ossena Car Park and Start the Walk

• We park the car at the Ossena car park and start walking towards the waterfall.

Day 02

Pause at the Picnic Area

• As we make our way down to the waterfall, we reach a very nice picnic area under the shade of a big tree.

Day 03

Water Trekking in the Oxena River

• With rock shoes on, we begin making our way up the river, walking in the water and over some of the surrounding lava stones to reach the Oxena Waterfall.

Day 04

Relax at Oxena Waterfall

• Once we arrive at the waterfall, we can stay there as long as we want, have a bath, and eat or nibble what we have brought with us.
