The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and City Highlights

  • Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Depending on your arrival time and transfer to the hotel, after breakfast you will enjoy a city tour, including Gandan Monastery and the biggest square, Sukhbaatar, which is located in the center of Ulaanbaatar.
  • Have lunch in a traditional Mongolian restaurant. After that, visit the Natural History Museum, which is famous for its authentic dinosaur skeletons and fossils, as well as the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum, and then head to Zaisan Memorial Hill for a view over the whole city.

Enjoy a welcome dinner at a restaurant and stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 02

Drive to Hustai National Park

  • Drive to Hustai National Park to see the wild horses, or Przewalski's Horses, reintroduced to Mongolia. Hustai National Park is world-famous for the successful reintroduction of the Przewalski's Horse. In 2008, there were 20 groups of Przewalski's horses, and their total number reached over 230.
  • Arrive at Hustai National Park in the late afternoon.
  • Observe the wild horses and feel the silence of the national park area.

Stay overnight in a ger at a tourist camp. (Ger means traditional Mongolian felt accommodation.)

Day 03

Karakorum and Erdene Zuu Monastery

  • Drive early in the morning to Karakorum and arrive in the late afternoon.
  • Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, a great monument of three dynasties. The ancient capital of Mongolia, Karakorum City, was located on the right bank of the Orkhon River and on the northeastern slopes of the Khangai Mountains. Founded by Chinggis Khan in 1220, it was not only the capital of the vast Mongolian Empire but also the epicenter of trade along the Silk Road. At that time, the inhabitants of the city were mostly merchants and craftsmen who came to Karakorum from all over the world. Khubilai Khan moved the capital of the Mongolian Empire to China, establishing the Yuan Dynasty, and the city began losing its importance. In 1379, much of the city was badly damaged by an attack by the army of the Min Dynasty.

Day 04

Journey to Orkhon Waterfall

  • Drive to the waterfall after breakfast in the early morning. There is beautiful landscape along the way to the waterfall. You will meet horse herders to prepare for tomorrow's horse trip. Water falls from a height of 20 meters at Orkhon Waterfall, which is locally known as Ulaan Tsutgalan.

Stay overnight in a tent.

Day 05

Trek to Eight Lakes National Park

  • After breakfast, a trekking trip starts to Eight Lakes National Park. This trekking trip offers adventure and a deeper experience as you cross mountains and hills with beautiful landscapes.

Stay four nights in a tent.

Day 06

Horse Ride in Naiman Nuur

  • The territory of Naiman Nuur was created by volcanic eruptions about 8,000 years ago. It is located in the province of Ovorkhangai, about 35 km from Orkhon Waterfall. Nevertheless, the track is not suitable for cars or jeeps. The road is very rough, but tourists who enjoy exceptional or wild nature often come to the area from the northwest on horseback. Naiman Lake (Khuisiin Naiman Nuur) is situated over 2,400 meters above sea level. Its area of 11,500 hectares was designated a National Monument in 1992.

Day 07

Exploring Khuisiin Eight Lakes

  • The Eight Lakes means the area comprises a total of eight lakes: Shireet, the largest and most beautiful; Khaliut, Bugat, Khaya, Khuis, Onon, Doroo, and Bayan Uul. Two of them are completely dried up, and the second-largest lake, Khuis Nuur, is 10 percent dry. The lakes are surrounded by high mountains with meadows and dense forests of Siberian pine and Siberian larch. The area of Naiman Nuur is usually cooler and colder. The average air temperature is minus 8 to minus 6 degrees Celsius, and the annual precipitation is 400 to 500 millimeters (16-32 inches).

Free Day at Khuisiin Naiman Nuur

  • Free day at Khuisiin Naiman Nuur.

Day 09

Drive to Tsenkher Hot Springs

  • Drive to Tsenkher Hot Springs.
  • Transfer to the camp and enjoy a bath at the hot spring in the resort area.

Day 10

To Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake and Volcano Region

  • Drive early in the morning to Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake.
  • On the way, make a short stop in Tsetserleg, the capital of Arkhangai, visit the Zaya Gegeenii Huree Museum, and then continue driving to the lake.
  • On the way, visit Taikhar Rock.
  • Before dinner, you will be transferred to the camp and stay overnight in a ger at the tourist camp.

Day 11

From Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake to Jargal Jiguur

  • Have breakfast and lunch at the tourist camp. There is a horse ride available at the national park.
  • Afterwards, drive to Jargal Jiguur.

Stay overnight in a ger at the tourist camp.

Day 12

Scenic Drive to Murun Province

  • Drive early in the morning through beautiful landscapes to Murun province, with a packed lunch on the way.

Stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 13

Khuvsgul Lake and Yak Breeding Family Visit

  • Drive to Khuvsgul Lake and transfer to the camp. In the afternoon, visit a yak-breeding family.

Day 14

Discover Khuvsgul National Park

  • During this lovely day, you will have an opportunity to ride reindeer and observe them.
  • Enjoy a kayak trip on the lake. Khuvsgul Lake is reckoned among the purest freshwater lakes in the world, and its surroundings are right out of a fairytale. Khuvsgul Lake is the second-deepest lake in Central Asia and contains 60% as much water as Lake Baikal. The lake is 262 meters deep and 136 kilometers long.

Stay overnight in a ger at the tourist camp.

Day 15

Drive to Hutag-Undur Sum

  • Drive to Hutag-Undur Sum with a packed lunch on the way.

Day 16

Amarbayasgalant Monastery via Erdene City

  • After breakfast, drive to Amarbayasgalant through Erdene City, which is the biggest city in Mongolia. Make a short stop there.
  • Late in the afternoon, visit the monastery located in Selenge province in northwestern Mongolia, the biggest monastery in Mongolia after Erdene Zuu Monastery.

Stay overnight in a ger at the tourist camp.

Day 17

Return to Ulaanbaatar via Darkhan

  • Head back to Ulaanbaatar via Darkhan City, the capital of Darkhan-Uul province and Mongolia's second-largest city, with a population of 100,000 residents. The modern city of Darkhan, whose foundations were laid in 1967, is one of Mongolia's largest industrial centers and has many functioning steel-processing factories.
  • Today, we meet with ARTGER /BOODOG BOYS/ at lunch time.

Day 18

Departure from Ulaanbaatar

  • Check out from the hotel and transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport or Ulaanbaatar train station for departure.
